Objectives
The proposed project aims to the ‘Development of a model for Eco-Restoration and Sustainable Development in National Capital Aravalli Region (NCAR)’ to address the stated problem. A detailed survey and mapping of the target areas will be conducted, alongside various planning activities to set the foundation for long-term ecological restoration and sustainable development.
Understanding
Ecological Dynamics
Conduct thorough surveys and assessments of the existing flora, fauna, soil composition and characteristics, and water quality and availability involving documentation of the current biodiversity, identification of key species, and developing an understanding ecological dynamics and drivers of degradation to formulate effective restoration activities.
assessments of the socio-economic conditions
Conduct assessments of the socio-economic conditions in the project area including the demographic profile of the villages, land use patterns and environmental awareness among the local communities to evaluate the dependency of the communities on forest areas of Aravalli.
eco-restoration of degraded landscape
Development of a model plan for the eco-restoration of degraded landscape consisting forest lands and water bodies in the Aravalli range, focusing on afforestation, reforestation, rainwater harvesting, and sustainable water and land management practices which can be replicated in other similar areas.
restore biodiversity and promote sustainable development
Development of eco-restoration strategies, including but not limited to native species planting, soil improvement, water conservation and blue infrastructure development, and invasive species management to restore biodiversity and promote sustainable development in the project area.
promoting natural resource management practices
Contribute to developing a model for climate mitigation efforts by promoting natural resource management practices in urban areas and implementing measures to arrest forest degradation and deforestation in the NCR.
Develop targeted training programmes
Develop targeted training programmes for sector partners focusing on modern restoration techniques, sustainable forest and wildlife management practices, and community engagement strategies.
Mobilisation of
the community
Mobilise the community to preserve the ecosystem and promote nature education and awareness about sustainable living.
monitoring and
evaluation
Identification of monitoring and evaluation criteria to assess the effectiveness of restoration efforts.
