Project Area

The project area spans four villages within the Gurugram district (Shikohpur, Sakatpur, Naurangpur, and Gairatpur Bas) covering 2075 acres. Situated along SPR and close to NH-8, these forests represent the dry deciduous ecosystems of the Aravalli range.

Protected under the Punjab Land Preservation Act (PLPA), these areas face threats from urban encroachment and habitat fragmentation. The initiative aims to conserve keystone species like the Indian leopard and restore traditional water bodies for ecological resilience.

The four villages have been identified as the project area lies within the Aravalli Ranges in the Gurugram district of the Haryana state (Delhi NCR). The area extends from 76o57’0’’E to 77o1’54.97’’E and 28o23’40.63’’N to 28o18’54.72’’N. The selected villages are –

  1. Shikohpur
  2. Sakatpur
  3. Naurangpur
  4. Gairatpur Bas

Ecologically, the area represents the characteristic rocky terrain and dry deciduous forest ecosystems of the Aravalli Range. It is habitat to keystone species such as the Indian leopard (Panthera pardus fusca) and striped hyena (Hyaena hyaena), along with diverse native flora and fauna. However, the region faces mounting pressures from deforestation, habitat fragmentation, and urban encroachment, necessitating urgent conservation and restoration efforts.

Geographically, the site lies along the Southern Peripheral Road (SPR) in Sectors 76 and 77, Gurugram, approximately 3 km from National Highway-8 (NH-8) and 4 km from the Gurgaon-Sohna Road. The strategic location near major transportation corridors makes the area highly accessible while also positioning it at the critical urban-ecological interface.

The proposed land, covering 2075.18 acres of forest area across the four villages in the district of Gurugram, falls under land areas notified under Sections 4 and 5 of the Punjab Land Preservation Act (PLPA), 1900. According to orders by the Hon’ble Supreme Court of India, both categories are recognised as forest areas and have been accorded legal protection.
