Recommendations

Based on field findings and stakeholder consultations, the following recommendations have been proposed:

Forest Restoration and Management
Establish nurseries for native plant species and plantation of seedlings, with support from varied stakeholders such as the Haryana Forest Department and local communities. Undertake community and satellite-based forest fire management.
Biodiversity Management
Development of wildlife corridors for safe movement of faunal species across the Aravalli landscape Natural reintroduction of terrestrial and avi-faunal species in the project area to enhance biodiversity of the region. Adoption of globally accepted standards (TGBS).
Invasive Species Management
Develop a multi-year strategy for mechanical removal and ecological replacement of invasive species with native species. Engage local youth and women’s groups in seedling production and planting of native species.
Water Resource Management
Implement rainwater harvesting, construction of check dams, and recharge pits at key hydrological locations. Revive traditional water bodies such as johads and integrate blue-green infrastructure into village planning.
Livelihood Diversification and Skill Development
Promote eco-tourism, Regenerative tourism, forest-based micro-enterprises, and value chains for NTFPs. Offer training in nursery management, waste management, and biodiversity monitoring.
Institutional Strengthening and Governance
Establish Village Restoration Committees (‘VRCs’) to oversee implementation and ensure community ownership. Strengthen collaboration between forest officials, urban local bodies (‘ULBs’), non-governmental organisations (‘NGOs’), and local communities.
Policy Integration and Urban Planning
Mainstream eco-restoration into Master Plans, zoning regulations, and land use decisions. Adopt ecological zoning and green buffers to protect restored sites from future encroachment.
Monitoring and Adaptive Management
Operationalise the Management Information System (MIS) for data-driven monitoring including IoT. Apply adaptive management principles to refine interventions based on feedback and field learning.
Awareness and Education
Integrate restoration themes into school curriculum, public awareness campaigns, and Panchayat-level workshops. Use digital platforms for citizen science and community-based reporting on restoration indicators.
